New Member Orientation 6-7pm
The Fight for Medicare For All 7-8:30
Our country's healthcare system is in crisis. There are 28 million uninsured people in this country, with many more underinsured and still more saddled with crushing medical debt. Meanwhile, insurance company CEOs take home an average of $20 million per year, working to maximize their profits and producing enormous social costs along the way. Insurance companies have stood between between ordinary people and the care they need for too long, and it's time to get together and do something about it.
This year, after months of Republican attempts to dismantle healthcare safety nets, Bernie Sanders released the National Medicare For All Act. The popularity of a universal, single-payer or "Medicare for All" program is overwhelming, but, as we've seen here in California with the deferral of our own state single-payer bill SB-562, most politicians aren't listening.
Join East Bay DSA to learn about how you can get involved in the fight for Medicare for All alongside friends, neighbors, and organized healthcare workers who want this just as much as you do. Together, we'll hear from National Nurses United Director Michael Lighty about what's going on with SB-562 and Bernie's Medical for All Bill, and talk local and national strategy with DSA National Political Committee Member Jeremy Gong and Jacobin Staff Writer Meagan Day.
Together, we can fight to win a healthcare system that works for all of us. Let's start with Medicare for All, and let's start now.
