  • Labor Notes Fundraiser and Party

    Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 07:00 PM through January 21, 2018
    Omni Commons in Oakland, CA

The Labor Notes Fundraiser is just around the corner and the East Bay DSA Labor Team has been working hard to make it awesome! Come out to learn about and support the Bay Area labor movement, party with comrades, and raise money to send workers to the Labor Notes conference April 2018 in Chicago! This biennial conference is the place for radical, rank-and-file labor organizers to meet, gain inspiration, and learn the important skills needed to organize and struggle for better labor conditions.

January 20 is a great opportunity to help raise money for low-wage Bay Area workers to attend the conference, hear some inspiring stories about local labor fights, and dance into the new year with your comrades! The event will feature stories from local workers about their struggles at work, as well as food, alcoholic beverages, and dancing! Come out to learn and support, then stay to celebrate the struggle among comrades. A cover of $5–35 covers food, and beer, wine, and cocktails are available for a suggested donation. No one turned away for lack of funds.

See the accessibility info for full details.

    Please sign up to volunteer.

  • Rally for Reproductive Justice

    Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11:30 AM
San Francisco Federal Building in San Francisco, CA

On January 27 at 11:30 a.m., the people of the Bay Area will unite to stand up for reproductive justice. This coalition will come together to drown out the voices of the Walk for Life, a mass march organized by sexist, right-wing, Christian fundamentalists — this year and future years.

Walk for Life organizers are building a movement to take away our right to have an abortion and to limit access to reproductive healthcare, contraception, and sex education. They oppose the basic rights of women and other oppressed people to bodily autonomy and self-determination.

We are residents of the Bay Area — women and trans folks, anti-sexist men, people of color, working class people, leftists, liberals, and others. We stand together in solidarity to defend our right to have an abortion and to confront sexist hate on the streets of San Francisco!

The multi-trillion dollar health insurance industry doesn't rest. We're preparing the next big canvass in March, so in February, we'll continue our neighborhood canvassing programs in North and West Berkeley, going door-to-door, talking to our neighbors about single-payer healthcare, our national Medicare for All campaign. We'll also be out talking about Jovanka Beckles and Gayle McLaughlin, the two corporate money–free candidates who will help us make single-payer healthcare a reality. If you enjoyed the big canvass, these neighborhood canvasses will give you a chance to keep honing your skills and meeting your neighbors.

Telegraph Beer Garden in Oakland, CA

In addition to canvasses, a critical part of each canvassing district's monthly organizing are the social events, which create a more casual space to talk about the fight to decommodify healthcare. Come meet the wonderful comrades and neighbors in your district and socialize about socialism over a beer or some food.
