May Day Fight for the Public Calls

Fight for the Public is a day of May Day 2020 actions and panels with frontline workers, led by workers at the University of California and facilitated by UAW 2865, the UC student workers' union. The East Bay DSA Steering Committee encourages members to participate with these remote events, especially if they are unable to attend the in-person May Day Caravan.

9:30am. Introductory Comments on International Workers Day

9:45am. Fight for Public Education: Fund the Public
Teach-in on academic workers unions and the UC budget in times of austerity featuring leaders of UAW 2865, UAW 5810, and UC-AFT

11am. Fight for Public Power: Honk for the Public
Drive-in action in your city (safely distanced in vehicles)

1-2pm. Fight for Public Goods
Call-in to elected representatives to demand housing and funding

2pm. Fight for Public Housing: Tenants Rights Teach-In
Discussion on tenant organizing during COVID-19 with organizers from the Los Angeles Tenants Union and the Rental Affordability Act campaign

3:30-5:30pm. Fight for Public Goods
Call-in to elected representatives to demand housing and funding

6pm. Fight for Public Health: Care for the Public
Panel discussion with UC frontline workers from AFSCME 3299, CNA, CIR, and UPTE
