Join DSA and Oakland Education Association (OEA) members in defending a comrade who is losing their job next school year and will be barred from working in OUSD. This is in retaliation for their union organizing in solidarity with Palestine. We invite anyone to attend this school board meeting in solidarity, and to speak out during public comment, if able, in favor of OUSD reinstating our comrade.
Background: Our comrade is a good teacher who has the respect of their peers and students. They were never evaluated and have had no complaints. They reserved a school site for a Bay Area Labor for Palestine mass meeting (which was sponsored by OEA) through all the correct official processes. Their reservation was canceled once Zionists found out about the meeting and pressured the school District to cancel the reservation. The District clearly made an unambiguously political decision against Palestinian solidarity.
Given no other plausible basis for non-reelecting a first-year probationary teacher who was never evaluated and the district’s politically motivated cancellation, and that the Bay Area Labor for Palestine event was sponsored by the Oakland Education Association, there no evidence to suggest this teacher’s termination was not retaliation for union activity in solidarity with Palestine.
