🌹 Vegan Potluck and Movie Night!

Social Committee

February 7, 2025

Join us for delicious food and comfy vibes in our office for a screening of Okja! This movie premiered on Netflix in 2017 and tackles themes of capitalism and animal abuse. We will have a vegan potluck social before and after the movie, so please bring a dish or drink to share (but come even if you can't!).

Coming off the heals of Veganuary and a year of vegan events for socialists, our little group of EBDSA vegans is going strong. This event is open to the community - we encourage attendees to invite vegan and vegan-curious friends (as well as lefty and lefty-curious friends). If you would be interested in attending future vegan events for anti-capitalists, please contact the event host (Gina) at [email protected].

OKJA: For 10 idyllic years, young Mija (An Seo Hyun) has been caretaker and constant companion to a massive animal named Okja at her home in the mountains of South Korea. But that changes when a family-owned multinational conglomerate Mirando Corporation takes Okja for themselves and transports her to New York, where image obsessed and self-promoting CEO Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton) has big plans for Mija's dearest friend. Mija sets out on a rescue mission, but her already daunting journey quickly becomes more complicated when she crosses paths with disparate groups of capitalists, demonstrators and consumers, each battling to control the fate of Okja, while all Mija wants to do is bring her friend home.
