🌹Tell Oakland City Council to Stop the Rent Bomb
May 31, 2022
Every July, the Rent Adjustment Program adopts a new maximum allowable rent increase for the next 12 months. The annual increase is based on the regional Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation. This year, the allowable increase is set to be 6.7% as of July 1st! Oakland tenants cannot and should not accept this increase.
What: Urge the Oakland City Council to pass Councilmember Fife's ordinance to limit the annual allowable rent increase to 60% of the CPI and no higher than 3% in any year. [Agenda Item #]
When: Tuesday, May 31 at 1:30pm
Where: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85841187063 (see call-in information below)
How: Join the meeting as close to 1:30pm as possible and no later than 1:45pm because public comment for all agenda items is heard at the beginning of the meeting. Once you are in the meeting, immediately raise your hand (on a phone, dial *9).
When your name is called, you will have either one or two minutes to speak. Tell the Oakland City Council that you support [Agenda Item #], Councilmember Fife's ordinance to amend the CPI rent increase formula. Be sure to say how the ordinance would affect you.
