🌹 How to Survive a Plague: Socialist Movie Night

Social Committee

April 18, 2025

In the 1980s and early 1990s, the US government ignored the HIV epidemic as it killed millions of people. Communities devastated by the epidemic banded together to form ACT UP, the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power. They organized direct action campaigns to force government agencies and pharmaceutical companies to act. ACT UP’s work saved tens of millions of lives and shaped social movements for decades.

Now, the US government is ending HIV research, prevention, and treatment programs, while attacking our communities. Join us for a dinner and a screening of How to Survive a Plague, a documentary about ACT UP and the early HIV epidemic.

Masks required, N95 masks and COVID-19 tests provided.

6 pm dinner
6:30 pm movie showing
8:30 pm discussion
