What is the purpose of prisons? Do they even make us safer? What could a world without prisons and policing look like?
The prison industrial complex is a form of class war! It is usually presented as a way to ensure safety and stability for communities, but in fact it disrupts and drains resources from racialized communities across California. Since 1980 the number of people in US prisons has increased by more than 450 percent, despite a crime rate that has been falling steadily for decades. California has led the way in the construction of a vast prison complex that incarcerates over 100,000 people in California alone.
Join us to learn how mass incarceration is used by capital to deal with surplus finance and population, and discuss how organized socialists can fight back against the capitalist class!
