Socialist Fundamentals: Building Independent Working Class Organization
Political Education Committee
November 14, 2024
Our Socialist Fundamentals Series aims to create a shared vocabulary and understanding as the basis for debate in our chapter, solidify knowledge of socialist fundamentals, and enable members to make informed strategic and tactical decisions.
Join us for the 10th event in our series as we shift our focus from the fundamental questions, concepts, and social forces that face socialists in the US at all times - global imperialism, the role of labor organizing, racism, gender - to specific questions facing socialists in the US at this moment.
For this event we'll have a zoom option, RSVP to get the zoom if you would like to join but can't make it in person!
We'll be two reading articles (both from 2021) from two different organized factions within DSA which attempt to articulate and answer these questions:
- Mike Parker on Political Action (article published on The Call, a publication of DSA's Bread & Roses caucus)
- Our Moment: Disorganization as the Problem of Our Time (article by DSA's Communist Caucus)
Each of the political tendencies behind this piece have left their mark on our chapter and in whole or in part emerged out of the East Bay. This event will be a chance for us to hear from people who have been heavily involved in both tendencies and in DSA.
The event will consist of a moderated panel debate and discussion followed by general question and answer. We encourage people to show up on time (even a few minutes early) so you can grab food and grab a seat so we can get started on time. Please RSVP so we know how much food to order!
