NOlympics: Organizing Against Capitalism in Our Cities
December 6, 2018
Welcome DSA-LA's NOlympics committee to the East Bay and hear them speak about the philosophy and tactics used in their fight to keep the Olympics out of their city.
NOlympics LA is a coalition of social justice groups both in and outside of LA that oppose the LA 2028 Olympic bid on the grounds the mega event will increase housing unaffordability, homelessness, displacement, criminalization, surveillance, and police militarization in the region. The process by which they were "awarded" the Olympics was profoundly undemocratic, and the bid will divert precious resources away from where they are most needed as various communities and the city as a whole will be exposed to a high risk of exploitation. The coalition was born out of DSA-LA's Housing and Homelessness committee in early 2017. See their full platform.
