Socialist Night School: Understanding Capitalism

January 29, 2019

East Bay DSA's Socialist Night School continues its 2019 Winter Session with a class examining the nature of capitalism.

According to its defenders, capitalism is characterized by the free and fair exchange of labor on an open market. According to its socialist critics, capitalism fundamentally rests on the exploitation of members of one class, the working class, by members of another, the capitalist class. For decades, the former view had gone largely unquestioned in American society. But due to Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign and a new wave of democratic socialist politics, the nature of capitalism and its status as an acceptable political-economic system is widely disputed once again.

Please join us on Tuesday, January 29 for a discussion of the capitalist system and whether it is compatible with genuine freedom for working people.
