Discussion of OUSD school mergers/closures

OUSD recently announced a proposal to merge 10 schools, all of which are in districts 5 and 7 (East and deep East Oakland). These schools serve majority Black and Latine student populations as well as a significant amount of OUSD's newcomer students.

Why is this happening? What is the rationale OUSD has given? What are the impacted school communities saying and doing about it? What can workers, students, parents, and community members do to fight back?
