Candidate Statement: Gerald S. - At Large

I am a member of the Racial Solidarity Committee of the EBDSA. I am also currently a member of the Oscar Grant Committee Against Police Brutality, Oakland Is Not for Sale, and the Labor Action Committee to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal.

If elected I plan to play a role in leading class conscious anti-racists workers both in and outside the DSA through the coming convulsive period that will be rich in opportunities and fraught with dangers.

Here’s why:

The spread of COVID-19 has triggered a global social crisis that will have profound and lasting effects.

This social crisis is shining light on all of the contradictions and gross inequalities of capitalism.

One of the most immediate effects of the pandemic has been the erosion of confidence in the wisdom and competence of the ruling elites of the American-dominated global imperialist world order. The 45th president of the USA suggested, on Television, that consuming bleach will kill the virus instantly. Well, one thing for sure-- if you drink a cup of bleach per day, you will not die from COVID-19.

The irrationality of the for profit medical “system” stands before us buck naked. The DSA knocked on hundreds of of doors to educate the people about “Medicare for all!” It is time to reap the rewards of the DSA’s good work.

The DSA also has an honorable record in the struggle of our teachers and the community before, during and now after the OEA teachers strike. We hosted meetings, supported picket lines, and wrote quality articles about this struggle (check Majority). We will reap our just rewards for this necessary and hard work.
