Resolution to Sponsor the Bay Area Troublemakers School

Submitted by Shane R, Zach W, Matthew T, Ken P, Vilma S, Sonya K, Zach M, Graham D, Kendra, Hasan A, Richard M, Aaron H, Claudette B, Alex C, Martha G, Brendan K

Whereas, Labor Notes Troublemakers Schools are pivotal training grounds for radical unionists to exchange experiences and build solidarity,

Whereas, DSA members are now and have historically been central to organizing both the national Labor Notes convention and local Troublemakers Schools,

Whereas, the reorganization of the working class is only possible from the sort of bottom-up organizing taught by Labor Notes,

Therefore, be it resolved, East Bay DSA will donate $2000 to the Bay Area Troublemakers School,

Therefore, be it resolved, East Bay DSA will encourage its Union members and staffers to attend and help organize the Troublemakers School.

Office Budget Reso

Ella Bank Thing

Resolution to Support San Francisco Reproductive Justice Coalition Walk for Life West Coast Counter-Protest

Submitted to the Steering Committee by Renée Paradis

Authored by Claudette Begin, Bonnie Lockhart, and Renée Paradis

Whereas the West Coast Walk for Life, held annually in San Francisco around January 22, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, is the second-largest anti-abortion march held on the date of the national March for Life in Washington, D.C., along with thousands of actions held across the country;

Whereas the organizers of the Walk for Life seek to deny fundamental rights to abortion, birth control, and sexual freedom and autonomy to women, LBGTQIA+ people, and all Californians;

Whereas the San Francisco Reproductive Justice Coalition is organizing a counter protest to the West Coast Walk For Life on January 21, 2023, with the support and participation of other organizations and individuals including the Raging Grannies Action League, Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights-Bay Area, Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco, Workers World Party-Bay Area, and Women's March Santa Rosa;

Whereas free abortion on demand is a key demand of DSA’s reproductive justice platform;

Therefore, be it resolved

that East Bay DSA will participate in the coalition and the counter-protest, by (1) turning out members to the counter-protest; (2) authorizing the use of our name and logo in any coalition communications; (3) allowing the use of chapter resources, including email, Spoke, social media, and a budget of $250 for any materials needed;

that East Bay DSA will reach out to other DSA chapters in the Bay Area to invite them to participate in future actions;

that counterprotest organizers will explore whether EBDSA should join the Reproductive Justice coalition for future actions.

Resolution to Appoint New CA-DSA Representatives

Submitted by Renée Paradis

Whereas EBDSA currently has two vacancies in its delegation to the California DSA State Council;

Whereas there is an EBDSA State Council meeting on January 28th;

Whereas there will be a delegate reallocation for CA-DSA on or after March 1st, after which EBDSA will hold new CA-DSA delegate elections;

Whereas it is unlikely that there will be another State Council meeting before new elections;

Whereas EBDSA elected three alternates for this term of CA-DSA delegates, one of whom has since moved out of California;

Whereas CA-DSA rules allow the steering committee of a chapter to appoint its CA-DSA delegates

Therefore, be it resolved

That the Steering Committee will appoint two replacement delegates and one replacement alternate for the remainder of this CA-DSA term;

That the appointment process will take place as follows: (1) the following persons are eligible for appointment, in order: (a) the two current alternates; (b) candidates that ran for delegate originally, in reverse order of their elimination from STV rounds; (2) that if any eligible appointee declines their appointment, the next eligible appointee shall be appointed, until there are two appointed replacement delegates and one appointed replacement alternate.

Resolution to Make Staff Authorized User on Chapter Bank Account

Co-sponsored by Ella T and Graham D, Jan. 9, 2023

Whereas, the Staff Organizer was given the mandate by the membership to manage the chapter office, which includes bills like electricity and internet, plus regular office supplies,

Whereas, the Staff Organizer is available during the day to perform financial duties that the Treasurer often cannot due to 9-to-5 working hours,

Therefore be it resolved that the Staff Organizer will be added as an Authorized User on the chapter bank account (a lower level of authorization than the Treasurer), which means they have access to a debit card and some limited visibility on accounts but not the ability to write checks,

Therefore be it resolved that the Staff Organizer will spend chapter funds only as approved by existing SC-approved budgets and/or the supervisor.

Resolution for Office Budget

Co-sponsored by Ella T and Graham D and Yari G, Jan. 9, 2023

Whereas, the new chapter office will require some initial investment in higher-priced items like a projector, more chairs, and other one-time expenses,

Whereas, the office will also require ongoing funding for cleaning and bathroom supplies, paper, and other items for daily or weekly use,

Therefore be it resolved that the chapter allots $1000 for one-time expenses for the office, to be used in January through March of 2023,

Therefore be it resolved that the chapter allots $200 per month indefinitely for as long as we have an office for recurring office expenses.
